Eye Health Exam
At the clinic, we strive to provide comprehensive, primary eye care for the whole family. Preventative and routine eye exams are important to maintaining good eye health. Often, eye and vision problems do not have obvious symptoms or signs, but are easily diagnosed by an optometrist. By diagnosing eye and vision conditions early on, our optometrist are able provide treatment options and in many cases restore or prevent vision loss.
TESTING FOR MORE THAN 20/20.
20/20 just means that a person can see a certain letter on the standard eye chart (equivalent to what a person with normal vision should be able to see at a distance of 20 feet.) There’s so much more to healthy vision than 20/20.
We have the latest in ophthalmic equipment to ensure that our patients receive the best possible care. This includes:
Optical Coherence Tomography. OCT uses technology that is best compared to ultrasound, except that it employs light rather than sound and thereby achieves clearer, sharper resolution. No radiation or X-rays are used in this test, an OCT scan does not hurt and it is not uncomfortable. This technology produces high resolution cross-sectional images of the retina. The layers within the retina can be differentiated and retinal thickness can be measured to aid in the early detection and diagnosis of retinal diseases and conditions.
The Optomap Retinal Scan. This Retinal Scanning Device takes a 200 degree full colour digital image of the back of the eye which allows us to provide a more thorough analysis of your eyes and helps us to diagnose or monitor eye diseases like Glaucoma, Macular Degeneration, cancerous lesions, hypertensive retinopathy (from systemic high blood pressure), diabetic retinopathy, optic nerve abnormalities which may be caused by Multiple Sclerosis, brain tumours and lesions.
Automated Visual Field Testing This procedure allows us to monitor and determine the overall function of your peripheral vision (side vision). Loss of peripheral vision may be secondary to glaucoma, brain tumours or lesions, retinal detachment, retinal bleeding, etc.
Glaucoma Testing includes pressure measurements, automated field testing and assessment of the optic nerve.
Corneal Topographer to map the cornea for better contact lens fit and care
Autolensometer to make sure your eye glass prescription is correct.
Autorefractor/Autokeratometer to measure an approximate prescription of your eyes which gives the Doctor a good starting point and to measure the front surface of the eye to help determine corrections for astigmatism and help in contact lens fitting.
